Snowboarding
3-10 March 2001, Les Arcs
Bourg Saint Mauice, France

If you're hitting the slopes next winter, it had better be on a snowboard. You look so much cooler on a board than on a pair of skis. If you're a novice the good news is snowboarding is easy to hack --- you don't have to be good to look good (which is the main thing!).

One of first things to consider is your gear. If you look good and feel good, everything will fall into place (or must I say, you will fall on all the right places!). Must-haves include slouchy trousers and roomy jackets in cool pastel shades, a pair of Bebe sunglasses, comfy boots, a board with a funky design and a funny hat.

That's me gliding gracefully, not bad for a beginner, eh?

Actually this is already my second year to go boarding so I'm done with the initiation bit (bruises, head on collisions, embarassing fall overs from the chairlift!). On both occasions we went to the French Alps at Les Arcs 1800 Ski Resort. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Mercure which has a cosy atmosphere, good restaurant and best of all it is within walking distance from the ski lifts!

I'm tempted to say that's me doing the fancy jump. Would you believe me if I told you it was Andy?

This shot was taken way up in the mountains at Arc 2000! Apart from wide open and less populated runways, this spot offers a spectacular view of Les Arcs.

This was taken at the hotel room balcony. Look at my board --- it's nearly as tall as me and twice as heavy! No wonder I'm having trouble getting those moves right!

Anybody care to join us next year? We're looking for mad people to share a chalet with!
