Last Stop was New York

Ferr & Tokugawa
15-18 April 2000, Manila

It was a night of sweat and madness. The Main Event at Ford Showroom turned out to be a major Boiler Room, thanks to a faulty airconditioning I lost 5 lbs. from sweating like a pig. It was like being in a 100 sq. ft. sauna with a thousand people! The dancefloor was definitely NOT the place to be.

It was a shame that we had to leave mid-party because we just couldn't stand the heat. We decided it was best to move to 78 Orange where (we know) the true party will begin. I couldn't tell much about the Main Event because we left early, but you can watch the video clips and see what it was like.

And so off we go to 78 Orange at about 2AM. Not too long after that Ferr and Tokugawa turned up with their DJ boxes. Hurrah!

We heard some serious trance music and saw loads of hands up in the air like everybody was flying high! There was some pretty amazing hair-raising vibe that night.

So, do I have to tell you which one's Ferry then? It was so funny at the Ford Showroom, some people actually thought John Robinson who did the opening act was Ferry Corsten. DUH!!!

Check out Ferry sporting his new 78 Orange shirt. Or better yet, check out his cool website!

The party at 78 Orange ended at daylight. Typical.

But the party didn't end just because we had to get some sleep. A couple of days later (we slept that long!) our Renaissance Man David J. threw a private party for Ferry + Tokugawa with some 30 partymakers. It was a good number, very, er, intimate.

The photos surely attest to some mega goofing around that went on that night. Look at that big smile on Adrian's face! Was he ecstatic or what?!

When Ferr played his very own remix of U2's New Year's Day, everybody went absolutely wild! It was a funked up trip down memory lane.

After Ferry, Tokugawa takes to the decks and plays an equally mind-blowing set that sounded like a Global Underground release! I love it when a DJ plays fresh (as opposed to overplayed!) tracks that can really get you into it without having to resort to mainstream tracks.

I think that the true challenge to creativity in DJing is being able to talk to the audience through your music, seduce them into joining you through a journey of hypnotic grooves in a constant flow of moody beats, and altogether everybody reaches a point of climax, and BANG! You're there without the aid of instantly gratifying anthems.

It was an amazing night --- wish there could be more nights like this!

Look at that, they even got all cuddly!
