ManoMission 2000
20-22 april, Boracay Island
Philippines

Our first make-or-break holiday was at Boracay in the summer of '98. It was obviously a "make" holiday as we got married shortly after. In the summer of '99 we witnessed the first ManoMission party at Boracay. Because it was such a huge success, NBK organised another one this year --- it was even wilder!!!

Three miles of fine white sand, pristine waters, rows upon rows of bars and restaurants serving every type of cuisine you can imagine, lovely girls in skimpy bikinis, $5 massages by the beach --- Boracay is a true paradise! No wonder it has consistently ranked among one of the top 10 beaches in the world. Leonardo di Caprio obviously hasn't checked this out yet.

The true partymaker begins his day at sunset --- having stayed up partying all night and well into the day (till like 11AM!).

The afternoons are made much more interesting by DJ Jed Dario with his Sunset Set (a la Cafe Del Mar) at Beachcomber Bar.

Thursday night was wicked with Manila's top DJs Manolet Dario, Robert Villaluz and David Jacob stirring up the crowd with such tunes as Falling In Love (G Park), Don't Give Up (Chicane) and Beached (Orbital) which was undoubtedly THE Boracay track of 2000. (A bit overplayed though!)

The crowd thins at 3AM (as it always does except at 78 Orange which is the other way around) to make room for the more discriminating bunch who prefer less popular tracks, lots of elbow room and better vibe.

The party at Beachcomber ended at 6AM, but we were still up for partying!! The group breaks into after hours parties at private resorts.

Nobody knew what daytime Friday was like - we were in deep, deep sleep! Friday evening was quiet (for a change). We were recharging our batteries for the next party, besides, it's not a bad idea to give those eardrums a rest.

Saturday we had a bit of water fun with the Banana Boat Ride! It was a good source of natural high --- a rarity these days. Some struggled to be a bit more athletic and had a go at a volleyball tournament. I have a very short attention span and didn't see the game through to the end.

Saturday night was a bit of a deja vu. We had the same round of DJs playing the same sort of tracks (each one playing "Beached") as Thursday's. But there was definitely more people, nearly a thousand all rammed into this tiny beach shack!

The owner of Beachcomber was so pleased (what with all the money he made from mineral water sales) that he declared open bar at 7AM! Brilliant!! A free ice cold bottle of San Miguel was just what I needed.

The party carried on at private resorts as the crowd broke into small groups. More music, more partying --- it was simply superb! You have to go next year if you've never been to ManoMission. Not to be missed!!
